It's impressive how similar we, Brazilian people, descendants of Portugueses, are in relation to Arabs. Namely concerning gastronomy.

- Olive oil (in Portuguese: azeite, from the Arabic az-zayt);
- Oranges (in Portuguese: laranjas, from the Arabic naranj);

- Sirup (in Portuguese: xarope, from the Arabic xarab);
- Sugar (in Portuguese: açúcar, from the Arabic as-sukar)

Well, it's natural. Moors invaded Portugal from 8th century... Something always remains, in different branchs.

Actually, even in both languages we detect a huge association. Probably, the fact of living abrod has enabled me to distinguish and recognize such parity more easily.

It's impressive how easily bilingual children change from English to French (mode) in Montreal.

Although the book’s name said it is (or would be) “Por uma vida melhor”, in English: in favour of a better life, frankly, I doubt. After all, how using writing in a wrong way as something usual will lead people to this way of life, helping them to do it correctly? I suppose anything but that.

That is MY opinion. Many questions about the effectiveness of this method arise from the moment we are dealing with linguistics, cultural issues and education. It’s too complex.

However, I’m convinced that is better show good examples, mainly if it is for adults - who have more difficult to learn, due to the delay to do that. A little caution is essential in this case.

Be it this way or the other, the fact is that no one would dispute that the sentence “Nós pega os peixe” (in English, somewhat as “We takes the fish”) is completely erroneous, even if people have used it in their spoken language. It should serve by example about what is not to be done.
 
I hope that the 484.195 Brazilian students who will use this book can distinguee easily what is wrong in writing. Unfortunately, I hardly believe that they will be able to, once they are trying to learn the correct Portuguese when using that material.

At the moment, I don’t care about on who Education Ministery put the blame of had approved this kind of (inadmissible) mistake… On the other hand, I reckon that Heloísa Ramos, the author, was unsuccessful in her wrong words. From now, nothing will erase that of her carreer... 

Thus, I admit that, sometimes, I simply admire exact sciences - such as math or physics… when there is no discussion about either its processes or results, and there it stands. It works very well.

I’m going to write this post in Portuguese due to my indignation and frustration.

Eu venho lá do Brasil para chegar aqui na Europa e assistir TV na minha língua? Na boa, preferia estar treinando o meu inglês, vendo a programação internacional - afinal, são uns 300 canais! Mas não… Dia e noite é só sermão de pastor, programas de baixa qualidade (infelizmente, porque dá para ver que o investimento é grande) e produtos de uma imprensa marrom: SÓ DESGRAÇA!

Essa é a Record Internacional - presente fulltime na minha vida atual.

Reclamo MUITO enquanto assisto! Chego a ser chata, admito. Mas é impossível ser diferente diante o que vejo. Não estudei para ficar vendo merda. Não consigo. Fico triste em vivenciar uma substimação e degradação da capacidade intelectual do público espectador brasileiro que mora no exterior. E isso nada tem a ver com crenças religiosas.

Poderia ser melhor (vi que posso inclusive trabalhar para eles sem problemas algum! Nada do que eles fazem é estranho ou difícil a mim), mas não é. Estando for a, o quadro fica ainda pior porque o nível das propagandas e dos programas gringos, por exemplo, é infinitamente superior ao nosso. Tenho tentado subverter o “sistema” instaurado onde eu moro, para ver uma programação digna.

Mas o pior: eles gostam! - sem se questionar sobre o que assistem diariamente.

A mula ruge… os burros, não (forte, mas é verdade!).

Avoiding my twisted roots.

I’m impressed with the quantity of Brazilians in Amsterdam. Actually, sometimes some of them simply don’t seem as us (or ‘Am I an E.T.?’). I know that our country is too huge and our culture is so vast… So, is understandable that I am not like most of them (or they aren‘t like me). However, it doesn’t mean that I'm proud or agree with their behaviour.

Their limited music preferences (sertanejo, forró and pagode - the popular ones, not the classic and 'old school'), alongside the wrong way to talk (I’m sure that I can speak English better than they the correct Portuguese!) leave me upset! Not only that, but some (dispensable) little lies and excuses, as the mania to be in vantage of others, besides the excessive sexuality etc, defame and also defile our reputation abroad.

I would like to be now in touch with another people, practicing my English or trying to speak Dutch or other language, learning (about) another culture, getting its new background… I need this break and not to be living this lack (a typical “samba do crioulo doido”) .

I wish for novelty (and respect!).

Estou há tempos para escrever sobre a nova reforma ortográfica em vigor no Brasil desde o início deste ano. Confesso que não fui e nem sou a favor disso, pois acredito que mudando a escrita de nossa língua (estranho falar de ‘escrita’ quando uso o termo ‘língua’, que se fala. Vou substituí-lo por idioma então... fica melhor!). Retomando: Acredito que mudando a escrita de nosso idioma o enfraquecemos. Línguas fortes como o francês não são modificadas quase nunca. São clássicas, inclusive, por essa irredutibilidade que as caracteriza.

Não consigo pensar em escrever ‘estréia’ sem o acento agudo do ditongo que a caracteriza como uma palavra paroxítona. E tem mais, os acentos diferenciais são os piores exemplos, na minha opinião, justamente porque mostravam do que se tratava o que estava ali escrito – se era plural ou singular, se era substantivo ou preposição+pronome. Agora tenho dificuldades para identificar. E o trema então... não adianta, não me acostumo a ver a palavra escrita sem os dois pontinhos. Sem eles, leio de outro jeito, é inevitável. Parece que está errado, que falta algo. E falta, na verdade. Tiraram o sentido das coisas.

Lembro-me que costumava criticar os mais velhos, quando esses escreviam ‘pharmácia’, por exemplo, usando o velho 'ph', também banido de nosso português. Hoje passei a entende-los perfeitamente e me vejo como eles quando escrevo, pois não consegui ainda me adaptar às mudanças impostas. Escrevo usando tudo o que aprendi na escola. E olha que sempre fui nota dez em ditado... ironicamente, hoje, nem isso se usa mais! – agora a moda é S-O-L-E-T-R-A-R. Eram tantas as regras, tudo bonitinho, para facilitar nossa vida (e não o contrário!) e diferenciar uma coisa de outra. Quem estudou, nunca teve problemas, garanto.

Estão assassinando não só a nossa língua/idioma, como também nossa cultura e o conhecimento em termos gerais, o (tal do) saber, em prol de uma facilidade, de uma preguiça dos mais desinteressados, dos que não gostam das letras, ou infelizmente não tiveram possibilidade de ter uma maior intimidade com elas, de conhece-las realmente. O objetivo é unir, igualar, mas é uma pena que para isso seja preciso descaracterizar, empobrecer. Espero que em função da linguagem da internet não inventem mais mudanças. Aí seria o fim MESMO. Imagina...

Lamentos à parte (e a essa leva de cortes, uno a imbecil decisão da não-obrigatoriedade do diploma de jornalismo - É cada uma que inventam...), agora, não só eu, mas todos nós teremos que aderir ao novo modelo (no caso da reforma, até 2012), viver essa ditadura da burrice, essa realidade mesmo sem querer, sem aprovar e gostar da "ideia". Socorro! Vou ter que me adaptar - desaprendendo e retrocedendo em termos acadêmicos. Não acredito, parece um pesadelo! Fazer o quê? Foi decidido (mas por quem mesmo?? Ahhh...). É phoda...
