sad things about Christmas time

There is something that always bothered me : Christmas trees. Yes... it is very sad their (short) story.

I've seen many on the garbage lately... It is not sustainable have one in this way!

Is it too difficult cultivate it in a pot?! Or on the garden... outdoor, free, harmonious with nature. Please, tell me.   

gratitude

Maybe because I'm getting old, becoming more mature and wise, then start to see things im a different way... Perhaps also inpired by some movies as Le Scaphandre et le Papillon, Amores Perros, among others we've watched. 

The fact is that, by now,  I strongly feel we should thank for being fine. Only this. In other words: not just realize while bad, sad, or sick, how both pleasant and great is being happy, having good health and peace of mind. Thus, praying heavily to heal as soon as possible, summoning all saints, God and nature.

Life might change so fast... we never know. So, I've thought about that, when well. Furthermore, I'm very grateful when I can smile freely, easily, with no pain, no ill(ness). And then, remind all of them (that are always there), spellbound by beauty of life, possibility of changes... as butterflies one.

maybe it's lacking something

Even me, I used to say, once seeing many friends posting lots of pet stuff (or, in "real" life, talking SO MUCH about it), that, in fact, it's time to make a baby! That they, actually, need a child... 

Well, who would'a guessed... now it's my time to do the SAME thing! Probably, it is exactly that: my maternal instinct sprouting, the nature speaking up! - after all, I want to have children. Furthermore, I'm old enough to. Yes, indeed, my biological clock may be already ringing...

Considering all love and affection I have on our kitty, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be a great mommy! (and so does my husand - a father! By the way, he is very gaga about everything concerning her too!)

Althought all wish of being a mother soon, it's not possible by now. Thus, we play with the cat - who have received the whole attention just for her.

Make the most of this moment, Lis! In a while, you'll have a little brother or sister. Or both.

Pas les hommes, mais les chats! 

C'est leur nature. Oui, oui... Le saviez-vous?!

Sous leur air innocent, les chats sont de redoutables tueurs en série qui trucident chaque année des milliards d'oiseaux et de mammifères aux États-Unis, ce qui en fait la première cause de mortalité liée aux activités humaines pour la faune sauvage, estime une étude publiée  récemment (Fonte: AFP).

Donc, attention, animaux! (pas seulement aux États-Unis, mas partout le monde...) Ici, chez nous compris, car on a une prometteuse chasseuse qui est tout temps à regarder la fenêtre: Lis!

Take it easy, it's not an attack by them!

Actually, lately, watching diverse documentaries (thanks Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec!), I realized just the opposite: that is to say, we are striking them! Gradually.

Little by little, they are disappearing! Maybe because of pesticides, or due to global warming... This phenomenon is called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). Causes haven't been discovered yet.

I admit I haven't been abreast about problems concerning this insect. However, now, informed and esteeming their fundamental importance role in nature (beyond hooney production), I'm immensely worried about the future.

And you? Just bee!

it's been an experience

Ok, it was not grave... I "just" waked up in the middle of the night with a strong noise, feeling the house shaking as when many trucks pass over there at the same time. 

Jokes aside, it was something (to me)! Strange sensation...

Can I freak out a little bit, at least? After all, I'm not used with natural phenomena like earthquakes! NOT AT ALL! Furthermore, this is not even supposed to happen here (what's more in that proportion)!

By the way, 3.9 Richter scale shocks in Quebec; Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario snow storms in early October(!)... Well, the weather seems crazy lately! Indeed.

Last year, it was the hurricane Irene... Which one it will be the next, Saint Peter?

Ils disent que, à chaque fois qu'on dit "une feuille tombe", ça arrive vraiment...

Malgré cela, c'est l'automne - la nature n'en oublie pas...(!)

(puis cette année elle s'en est rappelée plus tôt! Plus fort.)

a question of habit

A prove that it works:

Stimulated by the government to cooperate, Quebec people have reduced by 60% their consumption of plastic bags since 2007. It means around 1.2 billion fewer single-use plastic bags at nature.

It was more than expected! Nevertheless, there are still a billion which is being used. 

To change things, it's not so difficult... just willingness is enough. 

However, of course they were also encouraged by fees of $0,05 CAN each one (yes: here you pay for them - and its expensive!). If you have a big volume of grocery purchases, and you don't bring with you yours own reusable bags, you'll pay out some dollars. Many times in a year, it will be a kind of waste of money, a uncalled-for disbursement. Unnecessary.

On the other hand, and worse: environmentally, it becomes a problem. Actually, it's already a big one.

I admit when I just arrived, being really impressed by their eco awareness. Now, seeing this news on television, I was even more pround of living here as a green consumer who I try to be.

Fields have closed due to the end of the season, while I keep running (trying to make up for lost time!).

I'm in love with French, I admit.

J'essaye... parler, comprendre, écouter, répondre correctement, me faire comprendre! Since I arrived in Montreal, and now, mainly because I'm studying it, it's impossible not to say I'm completely involved with the idiom. 

Actually, I used to be when I attended some classes in the past, but it was not so intensive. While interested, it was not the same experience as living in a place where everybody speaks that, where the language is partout!

I fell in love, as a tree leaf fall... naturally. By now, I can say I'm changing (not my color, but the way of my thoughts, et ma vie). By the way, it's already Autumn! 

Well, for sure, it’s another season for me… Why not? Since I’m discovering different things far from home, and blooming as long as I’m not so green anymore. C'est ça... tout a fait!

It’s natural… as being in love, looking for someone before the winter come, wanting and also accepting all changes.

Ça arrive... C’est la vie!

August is the month which is equivalent to March here… Inclusively, the proper promises are valid - wherever you are. So, let it rain...

And I sincerely hope that they sknow soon! 

baby phase

Well, ten years ago were the graduation ceremonies and memorable parties the major reason to celebrate; nowadays, alternatively, has occurred a baby boom in my friends circle - fact which deserves sublime happiness. On the other hand, it worries me.

Of course in our (early) twenties, many of us (began to have or) had children. However, nowadays, in (almost) thirties (or a little more yet), that situation makes me wonder myself if I’m delayed  about that, or, rather: if it will happen to me - and when.

Time runs… Some ‘nephews’ (sons of my generation people) are turning 10 this year! Many closer friends already have two kids inclusively! Other have been pregnant or have given birth recently... I reckon it hasn’t been the best time to live that - and I would regret if I had already had one, I admit.

Looking through the biological point of view, within the next years I must decide if I want to form a family, or not. Then, it will be my turn to become mother… and I hope that with a good husband by my side to take care of me and my offspring (after all, storks only bring us the babies, don't make them!).

I’m blessed.

In fact, I always knew that it will snow!

For me, it is a kind of gift - special one.

Despite of being pretty cold and the slipping floor makes me almost miss one’s footing, I simply don’t care. I’m amazed.

It’s a marvellous grace.

not completely

In spite of being frustrated because I haven’t saw the lakes totally frozen (and still haven't ice skated on them, inclusively!), I’m quite satisfied. I have felt in these last days the nature power through its transformation of this season and its preparation for the next one.

It’s a magic process.

I’m sure that will be integrally done next time - not only about that... At last, it's something more complexed than the ducks habitat - unfortunately, did by halves yet.

Next cicle (time/round): I'm ready for it!

winter environment

- Look there! What are those black points on the water?

“Ducks!”, he answered me smiling… So I looked at them again, very impressed by their facility in stay at the same place, fluctuating, even with the gale which had wind-bounded us, letting everybody when in the wind‘s eyes almost without can walk many times during the better part of a day (and night).

Indeed, I could never imagine that I would find many animals so close where I’m living… I always thought that in Europe everything related to nature (the weather and its creatures inclusively!) were a little grey and dead… Well, I was completely wrong!

Everyday, when I go out home I see on the grassy spaces between the buildings in my neighbourhood some small groups of hares. Furthermore, uncountable species of ducks... green, black and white ones, besides other waterfowls - in most part of them, are adorning the cold landscape. 

In contrast of many cockroachs, rats, pigeons and bats that I was used to find near my house in Rio, here, in Amsterdam, I've seen flights of sea-gulls, storks, herons, gooses, and also flocks of tropical cocotas. Increadible! - I'm really surprised about that in particular due to the adverse weather... 

(*Ok, I know that there are many species of beautiful animals inhabiting Rio. However, in Laranjeiras is not common see crocodiles, fishs, many monkeys and birds! In different places, maybe you can meet them easily, but not there...)

as teddy-bears

Another type of animal we can meet often here, in the North Europe, is a kind of domestic bear. Actually, this low-temperature season usually results in people's behaviour changes (we practically became it!) - almost hibernating... sleeping and eating a lot (besides sometimes wearing heavy furry clothes). As the teddy ones, we rest on the bed most part of time (that we can!).

On the other hand, there is always someone 'bearlike', who is changed into a gruff person as a consequence of having its heart freezed - of course, this last one, isn’t my case INDEED.

tá tudo dominado!

Novamente e, por hora (mais do que nunca), eles estão por TODA a parte. Peste - praticamente uma invasão!

Azucrinam-me, confesso, pois detesto seus zunidos. Eles não me deixam dormir, assustam-me. Repulso. Bato palmas, mas não em reverência, e sim tentando acertá-los, se possível. Incomodada, não relaxo enquanto sei de sua presença no mesmo ambiente que eu.

Alguém me explica: qual mesmo a sua função na natureza? Nem pelos danos, mas mais pelas consequências psicológicas que me causam, ODEIO mosquitos! (já comentei aqui anteriormente, mas vale repetir... Mário Quintana mesmo reclamava que a natureza é linda, mas é cheia deles!).

Socorro, estou sendo atacada!
