It's impressive how similar we, Brazilian people, descendants of Portugueses, are in relation to Arabs. Namely concerning gastronomy.
Some ties I've noticed:
- Cabagge;
- Condensed milk;
- Esfihas;
- Kibes;
- Lentils;
- Olive oil (in Portuguese: azeite, from the Arabic az-zayt);
- Oranges (in Portuguese: laranjas, from the Arabic naranj);
- Rosemary (in Portuguese: alecrim, from the Arabic al-iklil);
- Sirup (in Portuguese: xarope, from the Arabic xarab);
- Sugar (in Portuguese: açúcar, from the Arabic as-sukar)
More:
- Blue (in Portuguese: azul, from the Arabic al-lzaward);
- Cotton (in Portuguese: algodão, from the Arabic al-kutun);
- Custom (in Portuguese: alfândega, from the Arabic al-funduq);

Actually, even in both languages we detect a huge association. Probably, the fact of living abrod has enabled me to distinguish and recognize such parity more easily.
